Upcoming Changes to Your ROOTS Account
Q: How will this affect me?
A: You will no longer use Roots\Username to log into any Computer. You will instead use your full email address as your user name. Ex. Use Mark.firstname.lastname@example.org instead of Roots\markpo.
Q: Do I need to do anything prior to the merger?
A: Yes, you will need to log into your Roots account and change your password to match your ONID account password. If you are logged into a PC you can hit Ctrl+Alt+delete and select “Change password”. If you are on a mac, you can go online to exmail.oregonstate.edu and log into the OWA web mail. Once logged in you can select Options>change password, make sure it matches your ONID password.
Note: You will also need to change the password on any mobile device that you receive your mail on (Phone, Tablet, ect) to match the new password you’ve set. Otherwise you may lock your account.
Q: Will I still have a @oregonstate.edu and @onid.oregonstate.edu email account?
A: Yes, you will still have both email accounts after the merge.
Q: Will I still have all my files on my computer when I log in with my new merged account?
A: Yes, after the merge you shouldn’t notice any changes to your local computer. All files will still be in the same place as before.
Q: What if I use a Mac?
A: Since you don't use your ROOTS account to access your computer you'll continue logging in using the same account you're currently using. But when you check your mail or access network file shares you'll have to use your ONID account after the consolidation.
Q: Will I have the same access to the server\mapped drives?
A: Yes, All permissions will remain the same with your new account.
Q: What if I never used my ROOTS account, or never got one?
A: These changes will have no impact to you.
Q: What do I do if I can’t log in after the merger?
A: You can contact ROOTS support at 541-737-2443 or come to our office in Crops Science building, room 153 and we’ll be happy to help.
